Alicia Terzian

Alicia Terzian (born July 1, 1934 in Córdoba ) is an Argentine composer, conductor and musicologist of Armenian descent.

Life

Terzian was a student of Alberto Ginastera , Gilardo Gilardi , Roberto García Morillo and Floro Ugarte at the National Conservatory of Buenos Aires . In 1962 she went to Europe, where she studied medieval Armenian church music, conducting with Mariano Drago and finally electronic music.

She taught u. a. at the National Conservatory and the Municipal Conservatory of Buenos Aires, at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata and at the Art Institute of the Teatro Colón . In 1968 she founded the Fundación Encuentros Internacionales de Música Contemporánea (EIMC) whose festivals developed into a forum for contemporary Latin American music. In 1979 she founded the Grupo Encuentros , with which she performs Latin American music in concerts on all five continents.

In addition, Terzian u. a. active in the Music Council of UNESCO , is Vice-President of the International Women's Council of UNESCO, Vice-President of the Argentine Composers' Association, Secretary General of the Argentine Society for Musicology, founder of the Latin American Music Council and member of the juries of numerous music competitions.
