Sigean ( Occitan : Sijan ) is a French commune with 5477 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in France . It is located in the Aude department in the Occitanie region . Sigean is located in the landscape called Corbières maritimes on the shores of the lagoon lake Étang de Bages et de Sigean .
The inhabitants of the municipality are called Sigeanais .
economy
Part of the agricultural land is used for viticulture and the vineyards are within the protected designation of origin Corbières . In addition, the wines may be marketed under the name of the country wine Vin de pays des Coteaux du Littoral Audois . The municipality is located in the Regional Nature Park Narbonnaise en Méditerranée .
