Narbonnaise en Méditerranée Regional Nature Park
The Regional Nature Park Narbonnaise en Méditerranée (French: Parc naturel régional Narbonnaise en Méditerranée) was founded on December 18, 2003. It is located in the Occitania region and consists of 21 municipalities in the Aude department . It covers an area of 80,000 ha in a catchment area of around 28,000 inhabitants. The park administration is located southwest of Narbonne , in the district of Montplaisir ( 43 ° 8 '49 " N , 2 ° 58' 22" E, ).
The area of the nature park is made up of different types of land cover . It contains
- 30 km of coastline of the Mediterranean Sea
- 8,000 hectares of wetlands
- 300 hectares of beaches and dunes
- 20,000 hectares of sea
- 740 hectares of salt flats
- 24,000 hectares of garids
- 6,500 hectares of forests
- 15,000 hectares of vineyards
This structural mosaic is organized in seven very clearly delimited landscapes, each of which has its own characteristics:
- the coastal area ,
- the massif of La Clape ,
- the plateau of Leucate ,
- the fertile plain, in which an arm of the river Aude once ran , with the navigable Canal de la Robine and a multitude of agriculturally used canals,
- the lagoon lakes ( Étang de Bages et de Sigean , Étang de Lapalme , Étang de Pissevaches ),
- the Corbières of Fontfroide ,
- the Corbières maritimes .
