Mouthoumet ( Occitan: Motomet) is a French commune with 107 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aude department in the Occitanie region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Narbonne and the canton of Les Corbières .
geography
The municipality is located in the highlands of the Haute Corbières , around 60 kilometers southwest of Narbonne and 70 kilometers southeast of Carcassonne , on a rocky plateau also known as the Massif de Mouthoumet . Neighboring communities are Vignevieille in the north, Termes in the northeast, Laroque-de-Fa in the east and south, Auriac in the southwest, Lanet in the west and Salza in the northwest.
The place itself is located approximately in the center of the municipality, on a hill, so that the western part of the municipality drains in a north-westerly direction and the eastern part in a north-easterly direction. It is a large number of small streams, but all of them are eventually collected by the Orbieu River and passed on to the Aude .
Transport links
The community is located away from national traffic routes. The only regional transport connection is through the D613 département road , which runs from Narbonne to Cuiza .

economy
Mouthoumet is dominated by agriculture, but is located on a poorly productive stretch of land where goats and sheep are mainly raised. The goat's milk cheese produced here belongs to the protected AOC Pélardon brand .
