Montredon-des-Corbières is a French commune with 1,477 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) in the Aude department in the Occitanie region . It belongs to the Le Grand Narbonne municipal association .
geography
Montredon-des-Corbières is six kilometers northwest of Narbonne . Neighboring municipalities are Narbonne in the north, east and south, Bizanet in the west and Névian in the north-west.
history
Gallo-Roman villas existed in Montredon, on the hill of Labade . Such finds from this epoch were made in various places in the municipality. The veneration of St. Martin, which is celebrated with the village festival, testifies to the development of a Roman villa into a village since the 5th century. The first lord of Montredon accompanied the Count of Toulouse on the crusade in 1099 . His coat of arms is still the municipal coat of arms today. In 1194 the Viscount of Narbonne allowed the Lord of Montredon to build a castle. In 1976 the community's winegrowers were hit by a crisis.
