The Garabit Viaduct crosses the river |
The Truyère is a river in France that runs through the regions of Occitania and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes . It rises in the Massif Central , in the Margeride landscape , in the municipality of La Villedieu , in the Forêt-de-la-Croix-de-Bor forest . The Truyère initially drains to the northeast, but later changes to the southwest and flows into the Lot after 167 kilometers on the outskirts of Entraygues-sur-Truyère as a right tributary . In the lower reaches of the river the river has formed many deep gorges, which are used to generate electricity through six barrages. On its course, the Truyère crosses the Lozère , Cantal and Aveyron departments .

Attractions
The Garabit viaduct of Gustave Eiffel , even Truyèrebrücke called on the Truyère near Saint-Flour was towards the end of the 19th century, the highest railway bridge in the world. It was part of the then important rail link from Paris via Clermont-Ferrand and Millau to Béziers. From the rest area on the north-south motorway A 75 “La Meridienne” , approx. 600 m east of the viaduct, there is a view of the entire viaduct, which now spans the Lac du Barrage de Grandval , which was later built .
