Sévérac-le-Château is a village and a former French commune with 2,417 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aveyron department in the Occitanie region . It belonged to the arrondissement of Millau and the canton of Tarn et Causses .

With effect from January 1, 2016, the former municipalities of Sévérac-le-Château , Buzeins , Lapanouse , Lavernhe , and Recoules-Prévinquières were merged into a nouvelle commune called Sévérac d'Aveyron and have the status of a commune déléguée in the new municipality inside. The administrative headquarters are in Sévérac-le-Château.

Location and traffic

The place is on a hill south of the plateau of the Causse de Sévérac . To the north of Sévérac-le-Château lies the Lot valley , to the south the Tarn flows . The through the Massif Central -leading A75 autoroute runs a few kilometers east of the town.
