Saint-Chély-d'Apcher is a French commune with 4164 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Lozère department in the Occitanie region . It belongs administratively to the arrondissement of Mende and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Saint-Chély-d'Apcher . The inhabitants are called Barrabans .

Saint-Chély-d'Apcher is located in Gévaudan between the western edge of the Margeride and the Aubrac in the Massif Central . The Sarroul and the Chapouillet flow through the municipality . Saint-Chély-d'Apcher is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Albaret-Sainte-Marie and Blavignac in the north, Saint-Pierre-le-Vieux in the northeast, Prunières in the east, Rimeize in the southeast, Les Bessons in the south and southwest, La Fage- Saint-Julien to the west and Les Monts-Verts to the northwest.

Saint-Chély-d'Apcher is located on the formerly important and fastest train connection from Paris via Clermont-Ferrand and Millau to Béziers . The railway line will only be used by individual freight and passenger trains.
