Les Hermaux ( Occitan : Los Ermals ) is a southern French municipality with 99 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Lozère department in the Occitania region . The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Mende and the canton of Aumont-Aubrac (until 2015: canton of Saint-Germain-du-Teil ). The inhabitants are called Hermalziens .

Les Hermaux is located in the area of ​​the Causse de Sauveterre in the south massif Central in the Cevennes in the historical landscape of Gevaudan . Les Hermaux is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Les Salces in the north and east, Saint-Germain-du-Teil in the south-east, Saint-Pierre-de-Nogaret in the south and west and Trélans in the west and north-west.

Film set

The place served in the winter of 1963 as one of the film sets for "Un roi sans divertissement" (A King Alone) (directed by François Leterrier , awarded the Grand prix du cinéma français ).

In 1967 the filmmaker and ethnologist Jean-Dominique Lajoux made a short film (21 min., Black and white) entitled Le forgeron des Hermaux , in which the farrier Jules Cabassut (1900–1983) provides information about his profession until 1965 and about festivals and customs of the village.
