The series X 2400 of the French state railway SNCF is a diesel multiple unit , 79 of which were built between 1951 and 1955. The vehicles offered space for 12 passengers in 1st class and 56 passengers in 2nd class, were 27 m long and reached a top speed of 120 km / h. The railcars were often coupled together with sidecars from other units.

The commissioning of the 2 × 300 HP vehicles went hand in hand with the commissioning of the X 5500 and X 5800 Mobylettes with 150 HP and the X 3800 Picasso with 300 HP. After the Second World War, the SNCF's pre-war vehicle fleet of rail buses and combustion railcars was fundamentally renewed with three uniform series of different performance classes. These combustion railcars also made it easier to replace the steam traction.

The series was first based in Limoges and, coupled with sidecars of the XR 8000 series, was used on the lines in the Massif Central . This was soon followed by the X 2800 series , which had only one motor, but was more powerful.

As the maintenance costs for the X 2400 series were higher than for the X 2800 series, it was moved to Rennes . By 1989 the X 2400 were replaced by the X 2100 and X 2200 series.

The X 2464 was taken out of circulation in 1988 and converted into a measuring train . It was repainted in the Corail colors dark gray, orange and white. Ten vehicles have been preserved in total.

The X 2400 series was built in two variants:

  • XABDP 2401 to 2469 with a weight of 43 t and two 517G Renault engines with an output of 250 kW (330 hp) each.
  • XABDP 2470 to 2479 with a weight of 44.5 t and two Saurer motors with an output of 235 kW (320 hp) each.

Vehicle X 2448, initially stationed in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux (AAMCS), was scrapped by February 2009 due to its poor state of preservation. Individual parts were reused for the X 2403. The X 2468 was dismantled in Culoz in September 2009 to obtain spare parts. Previously stationed in Attigny , the vehicle was handed over to the CFT Sud des Ardennes in 2007.
