The Chemins de fer et Transport Automobil (CFTA) was a French railway company that was created in 1966 through the merger of the Société générale des chemins de fer économiques (SE) and the Companie des chemins de fer secondaires et transports automobiles (CFSTA). The CFTA were active in freight and passenger transport. On January 30, 2019, the company was initially renamed Transdev Rail Bretagne and on March 15, 2019, Transdev Rail , to represent the affiliation to the Transdev Group.

From 1974 to December 31, 2013, the CFTA - or from July 1, 2005 its subsidiary Compagnie ferroviare du Sud-France (CFSF) - was the operator of the Nice – Digne-les-Bains railway of the former Chemins de fer de Provence (CP ). On January 1, 2014, these tasks were taken over by the Région Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (PACA) on its own.

In Brittany, the CFTA - and now Transdev Rail - operated infrastructure, passenger and freight traffic on the Guingamp – Carhaix and Guingamp – Paimpol lines .

In Lyon, the CFTA - and since spring 2019 Transdev Rail - operated the Rhônexpress connection between an inner-city station at Lyon-Part-Dieu train station and Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport . At Clermont-Ferrand , the Panoramique des Dômes cog railway is operated by CFTA or Transdev Rail.

Further activities of CFTA in rail freight transport were spun off in 2005 to a subsidiary CFTA Cargo, which was integrated into the Veolia Cargo division of the then owner Veolia Transport in 2006 . With the takeover of Veolia Cargo by Europorte , the former CFTA Cargo operating part became Europorte Proximité .
