The Société générale des chemins de fer économiques (SE) (German: Allgemeine Kleinbahn-Gesellschaft) was the largest company in France , which dealt with the construction and operation of branch, small and trams.

The company was founded on February 12, 1880 and built standard and meter gauge railways in numerous regions of France. At the beginning of the 1930s, the length of their rail network was around 3000 kilometers, plus around 650 kilometers of higher-order railways. Despite the decade-long restriction of passenger and freight traffic by rail, society is still an important mode of transport today; however, numerous bus routes are also operated. That is why the company has been operating as Société générale des chemins de fer et de transport automobile (SGCFTA) since 1963 . After the 1966 merger with the Companie des chemins de fer secondaires et transports automobiles (CFSTA), the CFTA became part of the VEOLIA group .
