The N106 is a French national road established between Saint-Gérand-le-Puy and Nîmes in 1824. It goes back to route impériale 126. Their length was 330 kilometers. In 1883, by changing the route, the N102 took over a 4.5-kilometer stretch of the N106 through the town of Pradelles . In 1950 she was given a new lead between Les Guittons and Cusset. One part comes from the N493 and the other from the Ic90. The short stretch between the Ic90 and the N7 C became the D490. In 1973 the section between Saint-Gérand-le-Puy and Alès was stepped down to the piece taken over by the N493 and N88 and in 1978 a new N106 was formed between the N9 south of Saint-Chély-d'Apcher and Nîmes:

In 2006 the section between the N9 and Mende was graduated. Between Alès and Nîmes, it is largely developed as an expressway and is still being expanded.

N 106a

The N106 A was a branch of the N106 within Vichy from 1933 to 1973, which was an alternative to the N106 that ran over a railway bridge. In 1978 it was renumbered to N219 and downgraded to a municipal road in 1986.

N 106b

The N106 B was a side branch of the N106 from 1950 to 1973, which was created when it got a new guide between Magnet and Cusset. It consists of parts of the N106 and N7 C :

  • N7 C : intersection with D907 (N7 C ) - intersection with D490
  • N106: junction with D490 (N106) - Cusset

Today it is number D906 B .
