The Route nationale 126 , or N 126 or RN 126 for short , is a French national road .

In 1824 the road consisting of two sections between Caussade and Saint-Flour was added to the road network. The course of the road goes back to that of Route Impériale 146. The total length was 121 kilometers. In 1973 the section between Aurillac and Murat was taken over by national road 122 . In 1978, a new road layout of the N 126 was formed from sections of the national  roads 621 and  622 :

This guide was graduated in 2006 between Toulouse and a road junction with Départementsstraße 42 west of Cuq-Toulza in the Département Tarn , because between this junction and the end of the motorway 680 at Verfeil the D 20 of the Département Haute-Garonne and D 42 of the Dépratement Tarn close Expressways are to be expanded. The remainder of the N 126 will in future be expanded into an expressway and placed on bypasses . In the long term, some of these roads will be extended to the A 680.

Since the Col de Cère pass was not passable in winter , a top tunnel was built , which was opened in 1843. In 2007, a newer tunnel running parallel to the old was completed, so that the first can be used as an escape and rescue route since then.
