The N186 is a French national road established between Versailles and Choisy-le-Roi in 1824. Their length was 23.5 kilometers. In 1933 it was immediately extended as Ring Paris to Saint-Germain-en-Laye , where it met the N184, which closed the ring to Versailles. She took over a section of the N190 and the N190 A and was interrupted by the N34. The length grew to 71.5 kilometers. In 1978 she took over the section of the N184 between Saint-Germain-en-Laye and Versailles and a complete ring was created. Since 1993, the first sections have been phased, since 2006 all sections have been replaced by the A86, which runs parallel.

The N186 A is a branch of the N186, which was signposted in 1933 as a variant of this within Joinville-le-Pont . This was renumbered to N486 in 1978 and downgraded in 2000. In 1956 another road with the number N186 A was signposted. This emerged as a dual carriageway between the N186 and N12 and ran around Versailles to the south. It became the N286 in 1978 and part of the N12 in 2006. There is currently an N186 A parallel to the N186 between Rungis and Thiais , where it connects the junction 25, 25a and 25b to it.

N186b

The N186 B is a side branch of the N186, which runs parallel to it between Rungis and Thiais and connects the junctions 25, 25a and 25b to it.
