history
In 581 Gregor von Tours reported a novelty as the preferred residence of the Merovingian king Chilperich I. The origin of the place name remains unclear.
In the Middle Ages , a number of domains existed in Nogent:
- The Château de Plaisance (13th century), the only remnant of which is on the site of the current hospital at 30 rue de Plaisance.
- The Château de Beauté-sur-Marne (14th century), which King Charles VII gave to his mistress Agnès Sorel and which was demolished in 1626 by Cardinal Richelieu .
On May 14, 1912, the last two members of the Bonnot gang Valet and Garnier were caught with a large contingent of police and military in Nogent-sur-Marne.
In 1921 the Evangelical Institute Biblique Nogent-sur-Marne was founded by Pastor Ruben Saillens (1855–1942) and his wife Jeanne. Since then, almost 2,000 people have studied at this training facility. One of the most famous teachers was the evangelical pastor Jules-Marcel Nicole (1907-1997).
