Fontenay-sous-Bois is a French city in the Val-de-Marne department in Île-de-France, southeast of Paris. Fontenay-sous-Bois is the northernmost municipality in the Val-de-Marne department. It borders directly on the Bois de Vincennes Park , which is part of the Parisian urban area. The city has 52,939 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).
Population development
A large part of the Bois de Vincennes used to belong to the place, which is named after a local water source. When this was incorporated into Paris in 1929, the area of the municipality shrank sharply. The population grew steadily: in 1800 1,478 people lived here, in 1901 there were 9,320 and in 1946 30,860; a high was reached in 1982 with 52,627, since then the population development has stagnated.
traffic
The city has two train stations, Fontenay-sous-Bois and Val de Fontenay , both of which are served by RER trains on the Paris public transport network. Val de Fontenay station is on the Paris – Mulhouse line and is served by the RER A and RER E lines. In addition, six RATP bus routes operate in the city, as well as two other routes from other transport companies and two night bus routes .
