The Val de Fontenay train station is one of the two train stations in the municipality of Fontenay-sous-Bois in the Val-de-Marne department . It is a junction in the eastern Île-de-France where 2 RER lines intersect. With 11 million travelers in 2011 (i.e. around 30,000 travelers per day), it is the RER station with the highest number of passengers east of Paris.

history

A second train station was built in Fontenay-sous-Bois as part of the opening of the RER A line in order to connect a new urban district founded around 1960 as a zone à urbaniser en priorité (ZUP) to public transport . This also made it possible to switch to the SNCF trains on the Paris Est line to Gretz - Armainvilliers, which is part of the Paris - Mulhouse line opened in 1856/58 and has since been taken over by the RER E.

Entrance hall of the train station

The platforms are spread over two levels: In the basement, the tracks of branch A4 of line A, which serves the route to Marne-la-Vallée Chessy and here leaves the Fontenay tunnel, run in an approximate west-east direction. The trains of branch E4 of line E towards Tournan-en-Brie have their platforms one floor higher. The tracks and platforms run roughly north-south and are located in the median of the A86 motorway . Because of the motorway, access to the platforms of line E is only possible via the platforms of the RER A.

Bus connections

The station is served by six RATP bus lines and two other lines from other operators. Two night bus routes stop at night .

business

In contrast to the neighboring stations of lesser importance, all RER trains stop here.

Line A runs 12 to 18 trains per hour during rush hour. At the weekend there is a train every ten minutes and in the evening every 15 minutes (in each direction).

The range of transport on line E is somewhat thinner: six to eight trains per hour during rush hour; In the evenings the trains run every 15 minutes.

Future importance of the station in public transport

The importance of the station will increase in the future: The planned extension of the T1 tram will end here, as will the intended extension of Métrolinie 1 .
