Mathieu Kassovitz (born August 3, 1967 in Paris ) is a French actor , film director and screenwriter .

Life

Mathieu Kassovitz is the son of the French director Peter Kassovitz , a Jewish immigrant from Hungary , and a French Catholic .

Kassovitz received the award for best director at the Cannes Film Festival 1995 ; his film Hass won the César in the Best Picture category . Kassovitz was also known as the director of the films The purple rivers with Jean Reno and Gothika with Halle Berry and Penélope Cruz .

As an actor, Kassovitz is best known for his role as Nino in The fabulous world of Amélie and as Father Riccardo in Costa-Gavras' The Deputy .

Kassovitz is married to actress Julie Mauduech , who is from the Antilles and has appeared in two of his films. He has a daughter with her.
