action

Mallory Kane is an agent who, however, does not work for the state secret service, but carries out assignments for a private service provider.

The film begins in a diner in a snowy wooded area in upstate New York. Here Mallory meets her colleague Aaron, who is supposed to pick her up, but is obviously not informed about the developments of the last few days. After they beat him unconscious in a brief struggle, she flees along with Scott, a random guest, in the car, a blue Evo X . While driving, she tells him about the events since an operation in Barcelona , apparently so that he can pass the information on to the police. The viewer sees these events in several flashbacks.

The first tells of an operation in Barcelona in which the Chinese dissident and journalist Jiang is to be freed. The clients are Coblenz and Rodrigo, who explicitly request Mallory for the order during the negotiations on the terms of the contract. A team meets in Barcelona to carry out the job. There Mallory meets Aaron. The mission is not going according to plan, but it can be completed successfully, not least thanks to Mallory's martial arts. After the assignment is completed, she and Aaron become intimate.

As soon as he has returned from Barcelona, Mallory is supposed to fly to Dublin for a brief assignment , where she and agent Paul meet the mysterious Studer. At a reception in the elegant Russborough House , she discovers that she is being set up and murdered. Back at the hotel, Paul tries to overpower her. After a violent struggle to the death, she overpowers him and kills him. She learns that her boss, Kenneth, is behind the plot. As a result, she not only has to flee from the wire-pullers, but also from the police. She only receives support from Coblenz, who only provides her with bits of information.

The story returns to the present, in Scott's car, who feels a little overwhelmed by this story. While still on the run, Mallory reaches her father's house in New Mexico, where Kenneth, Aaron and other agents soon appear and try to find out where Mallory is from John Kane. Again there is a fight in which all agents except Kenneth die. Mallory goes in search of him and places him on Vera Cruz Beach, where one of his legs gets stuck between two rocks as he escapes. Mallory finally learns why they wanted to kill her in Dublin: Studer wanted to get rid of the Chinese journalist, Kenneth Mallory again because she wanted to leave his company, which would have meant his ruin. Rodrigo therefore suggested that Jiang could be killed and Mallory was blamed for this murder, which would make everyone happy and no one asked questions. Mallory leaves Kenneth to the rising tide that drowns him.

In the last scene, Mallory finally tracks down Rodrigo on Mallorca . When he turns around and sees Mallory, you only hear the word "shit" from Rodrigo's mouth for a short time, then the film fades out.

Reviews

“'Haywire' is more of an evolution of early Pam Grier films. Only that Carano can really fight. "

“The bows in the film are made by actors such as Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor and Antonio Banderas. The strong beating heart of the film, however, is the previously unknown former mixed martial arts fighter Carano, who gives the expression 'physical play' a completely new expression. "

- star

“The content-wise simple, but straightforward and formally convincing staged action thriller concentrates entirely on the martial arts of its main actress. These are thrillingly choreographed and brought to bear more through the use of the body in front of the camera than battles carried out by montage and camera tricks. "
