action
After a lengthy stay in prison, the Briton Wilson arrives back on American soil to solve the strange and puzzling death of his daughter Jenny and to find the people behind it. background
The film was mainly praised for its acting performances and for the innovative editing technique, which distributes individual dialogues over several scenes and locations and even uses excerpts from an earlier film with Terence Stamp in flashbacks ( Ken Loach's directorial debut Poor Cow ).
Limey is a nickname for British and English people in American English.
Reviews
“The perfectly styled ambience and the artistic, seemingly composed pictures are deceptive: Soderbergh offers more than just a beautiful shell. He mounted the flashbacks in a new form and thus gave the straightforward, simple act of revenge a fascinating depth. There is also a wonderfully dry sense of humor. "
"Steven Soderbergh had another big hit after Out Of Sight: The story of an Englishman's campaign for revenge in LA thrives on the brilliant achievements of veteran Terence Stamp and Peter Fonda."
"With economical content and style, crisp dialogues, uncompromising attitude and cleverly integrated cinematic memories, 'The Limey' presents itself unpretentiously as a genre film with an avant-garde touch and entertainment."
Awards (selection)
Terence Stamp was named Best Actor in a Drama at the 1999 Satellite Awards .
