Joe Dallesandro , sometimes Joe Dallessandro , actually Joseph Angelo D'Allesandro , (born December 31, 1948 in Pensacola , Florida ) is an American actor .

Life

Dallesandro was discovered by the American director Paul Morrissey by accident when the two met in a New York apartment block. Dallesandro, who had already gained experience as a nude model for Bob Mizer's Athletic Model Guild in California at the age of 15 or 16 , seemed just right for the role of a young prostitute in Flesh who, in addition to charisma, also had the courage to be completely nakedhad to bring. It was probably also due to Joe Dallesandro that the film, which premiered in 1968, was a sensational box office success not only in the United States. The man who seldom smiled, whose acting skills could not be described as such, who was stylized as a male sex object, quickly advanced to become the avant-garde superstar of underground film.

The collaboration with Andy Warhol and Paul Morrissey ended in 1974. After the films Andy Warhol's Frankenstein and Andy Warhol's Dracula were shot in Italy, Dallesandro decided to stay in Europe and made numerous - mostly mediocre - films there. In the early 1980s he returned to America and played there under the direction of Francis Ford Coppola . However, he could no longer build on the successes Joe Dallesandro had in the Morrissey films.

For the cover of the Rolling Stones album Sticky Fingers published by Warhol in 1971 , Dallesandro had made himself available as a model. At the same time Lou Reed dedicated the fourth verse of his title Walk on the Wild Side to “Little Joe” . In the following decade, the English band The Smiths used a still from the movie Flesh with Dallesandro as the cover photo of their debut album The Smiths . The Norwegian band Briskeby later sang Joe Dallesandro in their song of the same name.

In 2009, German filmmaker Nicole Haeusser, who lives in America, presented the documentary Little Joe , an extensive portrait of the actor, at the Berlinale .
