One day Sigismond goes to Paris because he is supposed to represent the business of the vineyard owner Antonin there, and he meets the prostitute Diane, whose spell he falls under.

After a while he receives a letter from the domestic servant Féline. He just reads the end, which says Sergine killed himself. Not wanting it, he immediately puts it away again and continues to meet with Diane. A romance develops between the two, as a result of which the beautiful woman gets into trouble with her boss because she cannot afford to fall in love in her job. Later, alone in his hotel room, Sigismond reads through the entire letter that says that his wife committed suicide because Eli drowned in an accident in the swimming pool. Confused, the father drives through the city, leaves it and stops at a roadside, where he shoots himself. Diane lives on her old life.
