Sylvia Kristel

Sylvia Kristel (born September 28, 1952 in Utrecht , † October 17, 2012 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch actress and model .
Career
At the age of 17 she started working as a model, in 1973 she won the Miss TV Europe competition . She became internationally known in 1974 through the lead role in the erotic film Emmanuelle (based on the novel by Emmanuelle Arsan ). Since then, her name has been closely associated with the film and the film poster, on which she sits with short hair and half-naked in a rattan chair and plays with a pearl necklace, has become a symbol of the sexual revolution . In the 1970s, the erotic film by director Just Jaeckin was the most successful film from French production. In later films, she remained true to her image and, in addition to Emmanuelle's follow-up films, also played the title roles in the erotic film adaptations of Lady Chatterley's Lover (1981) and Mata Hari (1985). In 1981 she worked in the United States on the controversial sex comedy Tenderly, Love Begins With. Kristel has appeared in over 50 films as a leading or supporting actress.
In 2004 she directed the short film Topor et moi , which deals with the beginning of her career; he remained her only directorial work.
Private life
In her 2006 autobiography, Kristel describes how she was molested when she was nine. When she was 14 and her younger sister Marianne 12, the parents separated in what Kristel called trauma.
Her son Arthur Kristel (* 1975) comes from a relationship with the Belgian writer Hugo Claus (1929–2008). She left Claus for the actor Ian McShane , whom she met in 1979 while filming the film The Secret of the Iron Mask . The couple moved to Los Angeles, where Kristel tried unsuccessfully to gain a foothold in American films for the next five years and eventually became addicted to cocaine .
After her relationship with McShane, Kristel was married twice. Her marriage to the American businessman Alan Turner ended after five months. Her second marriage was to the film producer Phillippe Blot . She later lived with the Belgian radio producer Fred De Vree until his death.
In addition to Dutch, she also spoke French , English , German and Italian and lived in Amsterdam .
Kristel had been a heavy smoker of unfiltered cigarettes since she was eleven. In 2001 she was diagnosed with cancer of the throat, which later spread to her lungs despite chemotherapy. In July 2012 she suffered a stroke and on October 17, 2012 she finally succumbed to cancer.
