The Wild Meals is a 1976 Franco-Italian feature film inspired by the life of the criminal René la Canne , who was notorious in the 1940s and 1950s. He is played by Gérard Depardieu , who is assisted by Michel Piccoli . Directed by Francis Girod , he wrote the screenplay with Jacques Rouffio based on a book by Roger Borniche .

René Bornier already has several criminal records due to petty criminal activities. During the Second World War, he met Police Inspector Marchand in a mental hospital. Together they have their aversion to the German occupiers. After the war they both fall in love with Krista.
