Petras Avižonis

Petras Avižonis (born April 17, 1875 in Pasvalys , † October 17, 1939 in Kaunas ) was a Lithuanian ophthalmologist .

Life

In 1888 he graduated from the Russian school Pasvalys and in 1894 the grammar school in Mitau . From 1895 to 1897 he studied at the Faculty of Science at the University of Peterburg and in 1900 he graduated from the University of Tartu . In 1914 he received his doctorate at the University of Dorpat on the subject of "Lietuvių valstiečių akių ligos ir aklumas Gruzdžių ir Lygumų valsčiuose" in medicine .

From 1922 to 1939 he was head of the chair for eye diseases at the Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas , from 1922 professor , from 1924 to 1925 prorector and from 1925 to 1926 rector of the VDU. From 1939 he was an honorary doctor of the University of Latvia .

His tomb is in the Petrašiūnai cemetery .
