Life

Just Jaeckin studied architecture and initially worked as a fashion photographer for various fashion magazines such as Vogue , Elle and Harper's Bazaar and later became the art director of Marie Claire .

In 1974 he made his first feature film with Emanuela . This erotic film based on an autobiographical novel by Emmanuelle Arsan had enormous success in France and other countries, made the leading actress Sylvia Kristel a star and became the model for countless other European erotic films. His next film The Story of O (1975) based on the novel of the same name by Pauline Réage led to a censorship debate in France , which ultimately resulted in very high taxation of erotic films. The film remained banned in Great Britain until 2000. In addition to other, mostly less successful films, Jaeckin filmed another classic of erotic literature, Lady Chatterley, in 1981 , again using Sylvia Kristel as the protagonist. His last film was the film version of Bondage - Comics Gwendoline with Tawny Kitaen in 1984. The film was based on the works of John Willie , François Schuiten worked for the film as a graphic designer.

Since then Jaeckin has worked as a fashion photographer again. Today he and his wife run a gallery in Paris , where he also exhibits his own sculptures.

style

Jaeckin's films are strongly influenced by his past as a fashion photographer, perfectly lit images of a glittering consumer world dominate. The film service said:

"Just Jaeckin's films come in luxurious glossy packaging that simulates art, although at best they are kitschy arts and crafts with a ' Vogue ' and ' Playboy ' look."
