Ian McShane (born September 29, 1942 in Blackburn , Lancashire , England ) is a British film actor , film producer and director and, among other things, Golden Globe prize winner.

Life

McShane, who grew up in Manchester , is the son of football player Harry McShane , who played for Manchester United . One of McShane's strengths is the representation of sinister characters.

McShane worked in various television series, including in Dallas , Perry Mason and Miami Vice , once as a drug dealer and once as an unscrupulous dictator in a fictional Latin American country. In the television series Lovejoy , which was produced between 1986 and 1994, McShane not only impersonated the main role, but also directed some episodes. In 1986, he held a similar double function in the 6-part miniseries Madson , in which, in addition to the lead role, he also took on the production.

In the HBO television series Deadwood (2004-2006) McShane played the historical character of the saloon operator and brothel owner Al Swearengen . In the television adaptation of Ken Follett's novel The Pillars of the Earth , he can be seen as Bishop Waleran Bigod. In Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011), he portrays Captain Blackbeard, Jack Sparrow's opponent. Further film and television productions followed. In 2017 he took on a leading role in the television series American Gods , a film adaptation of the book of the same name .

McShane's dubbing voice was actor Horst Frank in the 1980s . In recent times, Klaus-Dieter Klebsch has often lent him his voice. McShane is married for the third time; he has two children with his second wife, Ruth Post.
