Toshio Mashima

Toshio Mashima ( Japanese 真 島 俊 夫 , Mashima Toshio ; born February 21, 1949 in Tsuruoka , Yamagata Prefecture , on the main island of Honshu , Japan ; † April 21, 2016 ) was a Japanese composer and arranger .

biography

First he studied engineering. He interrupted his studies to study music. He graduated from Kanagawa University , where he took the Yamaha Band Director course through major on technology . He also studied composition and arrangement there with Bin Kaneda and jazz theory with Makoto Uchibori . He graduated in 1971 and after graduating he played the trombone in jazz and pop bands. After that he worked as Naohiro Iwai's assistant and intensified his work on compositions for wind orchestra.

His own works, especially for wind orchestras, are distributed through publishers in Europe and the United States of America and are thus performed by orchestras all over the world. Recently he has also been composing for television series and films. He is currently working as an instructor at the Sobi Institute of Education and as a special instructor at the Yamaha Music School .

He won the 7th Academy Award in the Composition Section of the Academic Society of Japan for Winds Percussion and Bands .
