The University of Kanagawa ( Jap. 神奈川大学 , Kanagawa daigaku , short 神大 , Jindai not Shindai ) is a private university in Japan . The main campus is located in Rokkakubashi, Kanagawa-ku , Yokohama in Kanagawa Prefecture .

history

Yokohama campus

The origin of the university was the Yokohama Academy ( 横 浜 学院 , Yokohama Gakuin ) founded in 1928 , a private evening school. In 1929 the school was renamed the Yokohama Technical School ( 横 浜 専 門 学校 , Yokohama semmon gakkō ). She had a daytime course (business studies) and evening classes (business and law).

On May 15, 1930, the Yokohama campus was opened. The scholarship system began in 1933. There have been technical courses in mechanical engineering and electronics since 1939. In 1949 the name was changed to the current name. At first the university wanted the name "Yokohama University", but two more universities (state and city) wanted the name. Therefore, "Kanagawa University" (see Yokohama State University ) was chosen.

The university has a university library , the two houses of which are located on the Yokohama campus and on the Shonan Hiratsuka campus.
