action

Nobby is a clumsy man and lives in the English town of Grimsby with his overweight girlfriend and many children together. His life consists only of football, alcohol and other drugs . As a child he lost contact with his brother Coddy, whose old nursery he has not changed for 28 years. By chance, Nobby learns that Coddy is going to be attending a charity event in London and goes there.

Coddy is a secret agent with MI6 and is supposed to prevent an assassination attempt on the director of the charity, Rhonda George, at said charity event. Nobby interferes and another high-ranking person is shot dead. Everyone thinks Coddy is the culprit, so he has to go into hiding. Nobby helps him, which is only mediocre, and Coddy is tracked down in Grimsby.

Coddy discovers that Rhonda George shouldn't be shot, but the actual victim. George wants to unleash a deadly virus to reduce overpopulation on earth. Coddy and Nobby travel to South Africa to get at the backer. At a lodge, Coddy accidentally incapacitates himself with Nobby's drugs, so that Nobby has to take over the operation. Due to a mix-up, his camouflage is almost blown. When Coddy shows up, they are attacked by other agents. They can escape, however, by hiding in the vagina of a cow elephant, which at that moment unfortunately is being boarded by several cops, and by inseminating the two brothers.

The two then fly to Santiago de Chile , where the final of the World Cup (Germany - England) will take place. The virus is in the rockets that are due to be ignited after the fireworks finale. With the help of their friends from Grimsby, they storm the field. Nobby helps England to the title by shooting the ball into the goal with his pistol . To prevent the virus from being released, the brothers sit with bare bums on the appropriate rockets, which are detonated shortly afterwards. They survive both the ignition and the virus neutralized by the elephant sperm. Later, Nobby also becomes a secret agent.

Flashbacks show that Nobby and Coddy were orphans. A well-off married couple only wanted to adopt one of the brothers, which would have meant the separation. Nobby then left Coddy so that he could have a good life with this couple.

criticism

The film received average ratings from critics.

The website Rotten Tomatoes reported 37% positive reviews, based on 125 evaluated reviews and an average rating of 4.7 / 10 min. The site came to the conclusion that the film “provided the viewers with enough Sacha Baron Cohen's eccentric humor, but too many of the gags rather than brazen seem rather desperate.” Metacritic accumulated 44/100 points, based on 34 reviews.

Frank Schnelle from filmstarts.de awarded 3.5 / 5 stars and said in his conclusion: “Tasteless, outrageous, unrestrained idiotic: Anyone who has fun at Sacha Baron Cohen's slips, which is deep below the belt, is at the right place. In the fast-paced agent film parody, the brilliant and the brain-cracked combine to create an amusing and unpredictable fireworks display. "

The film service ruled: "Partly parody of the elegance of the Bond adventure, part fast-paced action film, part rough proll comedy, the film fizzles out into entertaining triviality, but shines with a confident staging pace and some accurate punch lines."

Residents of the town of Grimsby were not pleased with the portrayal of their town in the film and criticized Baron Cohen.
