Phil Johnston

Phil Johnston (born October 26, 1971 in Hennepin County , Minnesota ) is an American screenwriter, film director and film producer.

Life

Phil Johnston began his career as a reporter and weather presenter in the northwestern United States. After ten years he decided to change his profession. He moved to New York City and participated in Columbia University's film program . His graduation film was the short film Flightless Bird.

He then wrote some scripts, but they were never made into a film. Jeremy Orm Is a Pervert , a screenplay about a son of a priest who sells pornography and ruins his father's career, was in pre-production at ThinkFilm but then went unfinished because the production company went bankrupt.

In 2010, Welcome to Cedar Rapids was his first screenplay. The breakthrough came in 2012 with enough Ralph . In 2014, Terribly Merry Christmas was filmed, his first screenplay. This was followed by Zoomania (2016) and The Spy and His Brother (2016).

In 2018 he co- directed Chaos on the Net with Rich Moore and received an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Film at the 2019 Academy Awards .
