Pamela Suzette "Pam" Grier (born May 26, 1949 in Winston-Salem , North Carolina ) is an American actress .

Life

Pam Grier is one of four children of Air Force mechanic Clarence Grier and nanny Gwendolyn Samuels. She grew up in Denver , Colorado .

As a student at the University of Los Angeles, she was a backing singer for the composer and singer Bobby Womack . Its song Across 110th Street became the theme song of the film Jackie Brown years later .

1970s

Grier was discovered by New World Pictures' Roger Corman , who first cast her as an actress in women's prison films such as The Big Doll House and The Big Bird Cage . In the early 1970s, she became the star of the blaxploitation genre through her portrayals as a busty and energetic woman. These roles brought her a five-year contract with Samuel Z. Arkoff of American International Pictures a. The most famous films of this time include Jack Hills Coffy - the Big Cat (1973) and Foxy Brown (1974), as well as Friday Foster and William Girdler's Sheba, Baby (1975). 1980s

In the 1980s she managed to get back into the game with the crime series Miami Vice as well as with Ray Bradbury and Walt Disney Pictures Something Wicked This Way Comes .
