Jack Hill (born January 28, 1933 in Los Angeles , California , USA ) is an American film director who is best known for his exploitation films .

life and career

Hill was born the son of Ronald Hill, who as an art director for Disney and Warner Bros. worked. At the age of 25 he married Elke, who came from Germany. In the early 1960s he made a number of films with Roger Corman , including The Terror in 1963 with Jack Nicholson , whom he then classified as a "gruesome actor" (he later relativized his opinion). One of his comrades while studying at the University of California, Los Angeles was Francis Ford Coppola .

Hill never achieved the international fame of his fellow student, but has a steady fan base, including Quentin Tarantino . Through his company Rolling Thunder Pictures , Tarantino was responsible for the DVD release of Switchblade Sisters . In April and May 1968 he directed scenes with Boris Karloff that were used in four Mexican films released in 1970 and 1971.

His last film was Powers of Light from 1982. Due to a cut version of the film made by Corman himself, Hill no longer wanted to be mentioned as a director by name. The pseudonym Brian Stuart is now used. Hills has not directed another film since.
