Film and video laboratory assistant

The film and video laboratory technician was a state-recognized training occupation in Germany from 1983 to 2014 according to the Vocational Training Act .

Duration of training and structure

The training period to become a film and video laboratory technician was usually three years. The training took place at the company and vocational school . It is a mono job without internal differentiation.

Work areas

Film and video laboratory assistants work in film production or in film copy workshops. But you can also work for public broadcasters , private broadcasters or companies that offer production and post-processing of film material. There they develop and edit image and sound material on film. They use it to produce broadcast material, but also copies.

The number of contracts in this training occupation fell sharply. The last three training contracts were concluded in 2009 . The trainees recently visited the upper school center I in Potsdam .
