action
Bill and Ted are to be killed. For this purpose, two robots are sent to the two, which look identical and should take their place. It works. In addition to the various chaos that the two robots cause, they also take over the friends of the "real" Bill and Ted.
Meanwhile, Bill and Ted end up in a kind of hell in which they are exposed to their worst nightmares: Ted has ended up at the military academy after all, Bill is always drooled by his grandmother, and other disgusting things happen.
The death personally makes them an offer, finally, to play a game against him. If Bill and Ted win they can go back to earth, if they lose they belong to death. Bill and Ted beat death in every game they play, and death demands another game after every loss. After Bill and Ted beat him in Twister , death gives up.
So he has to go back to earth with Bill and Ted and help them turn off the robots. After many confusing twists and turns in heaven, where Bill and Ted meet God and old celebrities, they take the alien scientists “Volle” and “Kanne” with them to Earth, and the company begins.
Finally, Bill and Ted defeat their doppelgangers with the help of the aliens (who mutate into "one" beforehand) and death.
Shortly before a concert by their band “Wyld Stallyns” they drive through time with their friends in the phone booth, only to return ten seconds later with their wives, their own children and long beards and give a concert.

criticism
“Every aspect of the sequel surpasses the first film. Where the predecessor was made badly and indifferently - almost a pieced together work - Bogus Journey is cutting and the timing is right. With his feature film debut, Hewitt is not just another commissioned director. He has found his recognizable, comical voice and knows how to handle the jokes. Now the 'Bill & Ted' universe is beginning to take shape, and we recognize the concept, successful and undiluted. "
“Maybe even smarter than its predecessor, in that the film expands its surreal potential and brings together the loose ends of the plot and gives direction to its futility in a remarkable way. [...] "

Individual evidence
- ^ A film review by Hal Hinson in the Washington Post on July 19, 1991: “Every aspect of this sequel is superior to the first film. Where that picture was shoddy and indifferently made, a clunky slapped-together item, "Bogus Journey" is sharp and expertly timed. Hewitt, who makes his feature debut here, isn't just another journeyman director; he has his own distinct comic voice, his own way with a joke. This time out, we feel as if we're being given the true essence of Solomon and Matheson's Bill & Ted universe, their whole vision, intact and uncompromised. "
- ^ Film review by Lloyd Bradley on Empire Reviews : “Perhaps even smarter than the original as it expands the potential for the surreal and ties up all the loose ends, managing, quite remarkably, to give its own pointlessness a purpose. Will also appeal to fans of Douglas Adams's novels. "
