Hal Landon Jr. (born May 23, 1941 in Long Beach , California ) is an American actor .

Life

Landon grew up in Tucson and graduated from the University of Arizona with an Acting Degree . He then moved to San Francisco and was an apprentice at the Actor's Workshop . In 1966, Landon joined the South Coast Repertory theater company in Costa Mesa . Since 1980 he has appeared there in the run-up to Christmas as Ebenezer Scrooge in Charles Dickens ' A Christmas Carol .

Landon made his film debut in David Lynch's Eraserhead in 1977 . He starred almost entirely in television productions during the 1980s before being cast as Captain Logan , Ted's father in Bill & Ted's Insane Journey through Time . He played this role in the 1991 sequel, Bill & Ted's Crazy Journey into the Future . For over three decades, Landon has guest- starred on U.S. television series including Dallas , A Terribly Kind Family, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine . In 2011, he had a small role as Napoleon Bonaparte in the silent film The Artist , which won five Academy Awards . His marriage to Janis Morissette had two children.
