Ryan Colin Kavanaugh (born December 4, 1974 ) is an American film producer and entrepreneur . As the founder of his production company Relativity Media , he is currently also its CEO .

Life

After graduating from the University of California, Santa Barbara , Ryan Kavanaugh attended UCLA in 1997 . Since he had already worked repeatedly on the stock exchange during his studies, including for Dean Witter Reynolds , a New York brokerage company with a branch in San Francisco, he broke off his studies and founded a hedge fund with a few fellow students . This was so successful that he became a multi-millionaire. Only after the dot-com bubble and after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 and the associated stock market crashes did he lose everything again and had to move back in with his parents.

When the economy recovered and money was back in circulation looking for investment opportunities, Kavanaugh was able to use his geographic proximity to Hollywood to bring his old contacts with the film world together. In 2004 he founded his own production company Relativity Media , with which he produced films such as Zombieland , The Fighter and Without Limit , before the studio went bankrupt in July 2015. Often Kavanaugh appears only as an executive producer and rarely as an actual film producer.

Ryan Kavanaugh is the son of a German doctor who speaks nine languages, helped build the pharmaceutical company Merck and is currently the chairman of a pharmaceutical company.
