Peter Kassovitz

Peter Kassovitz (born November 17, 1938 in Budapest ) is a French film director , screenwriter and film actor of Hungarian origin.

Short biography

Peter Kassovitz was born in Budapest to Jewish parents. At the age of 5, in 1943, he had to watch his parents being deported by the German occupiers. Protected by a Catholic family, Kassovitz survived the Holocaust and surprisingly saw his parents again, who had survived the concentration camp .

In 1956, as a result of the Hungarian popular uprising , Kassovitz fled to Paris , where he still lives today. He took French citizenship and began his career as a director in 1964.

Kassovitz received the Adolf Grimme Silver Prize in 1969 for directing the report Cascadeure - Falling, Jumping, Brawling .

Although Kassovitz's films are better known in France than in German-speaking countries, at least the 1999 film drama about the Holocaust, Jakob the Liar, is his best-known work. He was nominated for the Golden Ear of Ear at the Valladolid International Film Festival for his work .

His son is Mathieu Kassovitz , who works as an actor and director .
