Angélique is a French historical film from 2013. It is based on the first two volumes of the Angélique novels by the French writer Anne Golon ( Angélique Volume 1 & 2 ) and the first four volumes of the new publication from 2008. The film was lost on television the title Angélique - A great love in danger .

In 1656 the young Angélique, daughter of an impoverished aristocratic family, was married against her will to the rich Count Joffrey de Peyrac from Toulouse . After initial dislike, a happy relationship develops over time. At the court of the Sun King Louis XIV , however, intrigues are forged against Count de Peyrac, who is eventually accused of witchcraft and locked in the Bastille . Angélique also comes into the focus of conspirators, as she happened to witness a plot against the king in her youth.

Shooting took place in Austria, the Czech Republic and Belgium from September 2012, and post-production began in November of the same year. The companies Ajoz Films (France), EuropaCorp (France), Climax Films (Belgium), Mona Film (Austria) and Wilma Film Production (Czech Republic) were involved in the production. The budget for the film was € 15 million.

The premiere took place on November 12, 2013 at the Festival du film de Sarlat , the film start in France was December 18, 2013, in German-speaking countries on June 12, 2014.

The film was originally planned as the first part of a two-part series, should it be financially successful. Since he did not make his budget in France and was one of the most unsuccessful films of 2013, the production of the second part is so far uncertain.

In the jury's statement, the German Film and Media Assessment (FBW) praised the film for its faithful and contemporary implementation. The online portal Filmstarts criticizes formal weaknesses and points to the lack of success in France, where the film only attracted a good 100,000 visitors to the cinemas, but in the end it draws a positive conclusion and awards three out of five stars.

Awards

The film won several awards at the Festival du film de Sarlat 2013 , including the Salamandre d'Or for best film. In Germany it was given the title “particularly valuable”.
