David Kross
David Kross (actually: David Kroß ; born July 4, 1990 in Henstedt-Ulzburg , Schleswig-Holstein ) is a German actor .
Life
David Kross grew up in Todendorf in the Stormarn district and attended Eckhorst-Gymnasium in Bargteheide until 2007 . In his free time he played basketball at TSV Bargteheide from 2004 to 2006 . In December 2003 he had his first major acting appearance in Kirsten Martensen's production of Help, The Herdmanns, with the children's theater group Blaues Wölkchen from the Small Theater in Bargteheide . This was followed by other supporting roles in stage versions of Momo and the Feuerzangenbowle .
In 2005 Detlev Buck's daughter Bernadette made her father aware of Kross. Kross went to the casting for the film Knallhart , and Buck hired him for the lead role. The shooting took place during the summer vacation 2005. Kross played the 15-year-old student Michael Polischka , who moves with his mother Miriam ( Jenny Elvers-Elbertzhagen ) from the wealthy Berlin district of Zehlendorf to the migrant hotspot Neukölln . For this role he not only earned a lot of praise at the Berlinale 2006 , but also received (together with Constantin von Jascheroff for Falscher Bekenner ) the award for best leading actor at the Nuremberg Film Festival Turkey / Germany .
In 2006 he made a guest appearance in Detlev Buck's Hands Off Mississippi as an apprentice baker. In autumn 2006, the shooting of Marco Kreuzpaintner's Krabat began in Romania . In this film adaptation of Otfried Preussler's book for young people , Kross plays the leading role, the miller's boy Krabat ; Christian Redl , Daniel Brühl and Robert Stadlober can also be seen in other roles . The film was shot on September 19, 2007 and was released in theaters in October 2008.
In September 2007 filming began on Der Vorleser ; was rotated u. a. in Berlin , Cologne and Görlitz . In Stephen Daldry's film adaptation of Bernhard Schlink 's bestseller , Kross again played the lead role, together with Kate Winslet , Ralph Fiennes and Bruno Ganz . The world premiere took place on December 3, 2008 in New York's Ziegfeld Theater. The film ran out of competition in the Berlinale competition program in 2009 . In May 2009 he was awarded the Chopard Trophy for his performance in The Reader at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival . Months later, he was nominated for the European Film Awards for Best Actor .
His next project was to star in Detlev Buck's Same Same But Different . The script follows an autobiographical article by Benjamin Prüfer . The shooting of this love story between a German backpacker and an HIV-positive Cambodian woman took place from November 2008 to January 2009 in Cambodia as well as in Kuala Lumpur and Hamburg .
From summer 2009 Kross lived in London . There he began a three-year acting course at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) in September 2009 , which he dropped out again at the end of 2009. He has lived in Berlin-Charlottenburg since 2010 .
In Steven Spielberg's 2011 film Companions , he played the role of the German soldier Günther. In Marcus H. Rosenmüller's film Trautmann (2018) he plays the leading role of the German goalkeeper Bernd "Bert" Trautmann .
