criticism

Oliver Kaever summarized his rating for Zeit Online in the sentence: “Smooth as a commercial popo.” He continued: “After the intoxicating start, he [the director] clings to the standards of cinematic storytelling for a young audience: fast cuts, sequences that are resolved into as many camera settings as possible, a clean look, exaggerated sound effects, an all-commenting score. With this constant squint at the international generic film language, there is no room for your own, creative approaches. ”Finally, it was said that the staging would remain“ as placeless and faceless as a commercial ”.

Cinema's verdict was consistently positive. It said: “The atmospherically captivating dystopia is perfectly cast with Jörg Hartmann […], Liv Lisa Fries […] and Jens Harzer in the supporting roles and is consistently excitingly staged. In any case, 'Boy 7' provides enough reasons to trust German genre cinema a little more in the future. ”Conclusion:“ A cleverly constructed future thriller that skillfully varies familiar genre motifs. ”

24bilder.net speaks of a "wild trip into a dystopian world - thrilling, surprising and incredibly exciting". There is also talk of the fact that director Özgür Yildirim succeeded in creating “an atmospheric and intelligent thriller, visually extraordinary and with a first-class cast”. With David Kross and Emilia Schüle, two “of the most sought-after young German actors have been won”.
