Rico Mahel

Rico Mahel (born May 20, 1989 in Güstrow ) is a German - Mozambican - Portuguese film director , screenwriter , film editor and photographer .

Life

Mahel studied photography at the Lette-Verein Berlin from 2008 to 2011 . Numerous solo and group exhibitions were followed by a cooperation with the Berlin State Ballet with an exhibition of his work at the Unter den Linden State Opera , the photography prize from the culture magazine Opus for his project "σῶμα"  (sõma) and various publications in online and print media, e.g. B. the draft horse magazine . Since 2011 he has been studying directing at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin .

His short film Inferno won u. a. the audience award at the Randfilm Festival in Kassel and was honored with the Iris Award in the “Best Camera” category at the Terre di Cinema - International Cinematographer Days in Italy . His short film Wights in Paradise had its world premiere at the Durban International Film Festival in South Africa . In 2016 Mahel was nominated for the Grand Prix at the Sapporo International Short Film Festival in Japan .

In addition to films, Mahel also makes music videos , such as B. Technicolor for the DJ Lunakid , who has been invited to numerous film festivals, u. a. the Berlin Music Video Awards and the Interfilm Berlin .
