Matthias Bolliger (* 1975 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss - German cameraman / director of photography (DoP), film lecturer / coach and specialist author based in Hamburg and Lucerne. He is known u. a. also under his stage name "le bolligé".

Career

From 1994 to 1997, Bolliger headed the “Innerschweizer Filmtage” and was involved in the founding of Arcanusfilm AG, later Arcmedia AG Lucerne. After studying film in the field of "camera / image direction" in Zurich, Berlin and Hamburg, he works as a freelance cameraman for scenic productions and in image / advertising film.

In 2007 he directed Chiko with director Özgür Yıldırım and Fatih Akıns production company Corazón International . Chiko was nominated for the German Camera Prize in 2008 and received two German Film Awards the following year . In 2011 Matthias Bolliger realized the hip-hop music film Blutzbrüdaz as DoP with rapper Sido in the lead role. Blutzbrüdaz started nationwide in cinemas in Germany, Austria and Switzerland at the end of 2011 and reached over half a million viewers. In the summer of 2012, Matthias Bolliger shot the first episode of the new NDR- Tatort with Wotan Wilke Möhring , whose case Feuerteufel reached ten million viewers when it was first broadcast in April 2013. In 2012/13 he shot a stereoscopic long-term documentary for ZDF / Arte about the German astronaut Alexander Gerst and his upcoming space mission on the International Space Station ISS in 2014 and was one of the DoPs in the music festival cinema documentary "Wacken 3D".

In 2014 he was responsible for the image design of the bestseller film adaptation “Boy7” by the Dutch author Mirjam Mous with David Kross and Emilia Schüle in the leading roles. In spring 2015 he realized another North Tatort with Wotan Wilke Möhring and his new investigation partner Franziska Weisz and then shot the episode of Tatort Freiburg with Heike Makatsch aka Commissioner Ellen Berlinger with director Katrin Gebbe .

In 2016 he started filming “16 levers des soleil”, a long-term documentary about the French ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet - this was shot as a multi-format project for TV / cinema, full dome / planetarium and VR / 360. In autumn he shot Özgür Yıldırım's new feature film “Only God Can Judge Me” with Moritz Bleibtreu , Edin Hasanović and Birgit Minichmayr in the leading roles. In 2017, the shooting of the third North Tatort began with Wotan Wilke Möhring and in 2018/19 he shot the second and final third season of the successful Mafia drama series 4 Blocks with Kida Khodr Ramadan in the lead role.

Matthias Bolliger teaches at the Hamburg Media School (HMS), the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg and the International Film School Cologne (IFS) and writes as a specialist author for the magazine Film & TV Kameramann . He is a member of the German Film Academy .
