occupation

Zorn Gottes is a television film from the crime series Tatort , which was produced for Norddeutscher Rundfunk under the direction of Özgür Yildirim and which was premiered on March 20, 2016. It is the 980th episode in the series and the seventh case of Chief Detective Thorsten Falke . Together with his new colleague, Police Commissioner Julia Grosz, he tries to solve a death at Hanover-Langenhagen Airport.

action

At Hannover-Langenhagen Airport , a Jordanian passenger wearing a conspicuous red scarf is lured to a secret passage by an airport employee because he assumes it is the man he is supposed to bring to the airport control on behalf of a smuggler ring. When Aziz Berhan complains about this unusual treatment and wants to call the police, the employee knocks down Berhan and, in his perplexity, grabs a hammer to silence the man for good.

After he hides the corpse unnoticed in the landing gear of a passenger plane and shortly after take-off it falls from the sky and lands in a private swimming pool, Federal Police Officer Thorsten Falke is called in to solve this strange case. Falke had already made the acquaintance of the airport management during an anti-terrorism exercise. From there, the young and committed police officer Julia Grosz is placed at his side, who is very familiar with the processes at the airport and who can support Falke very well. After analyzing surveillance tapes, the investigators realized that the man must have fallen victim to a gang of people smugglers who had "set up" a secret route on the airport premises and got in the way of the victim because of the mix-up.

The IS returnees Enis Günday, who is actually expected by the smugglers, complains very impulsively to the airport employee and is then immobilized by him with a stun gun . Together with his girlfriend Laura, he takes the drugged man into hiding and contacts his half-brother and colleague Mike Kovac. When "Rocky" Kovac realizes that they should help an ISIS returnees into the country, he gradually becomes aware of the danger he is in.

In the meantime, Falke has also found out that an Islamist terrorist from the so-called “Braunschweig Brigade” was supposed to come into the country via Hannover-Langenhagen Airport. You can identify Enis Günday on surveillance tapes and try to find a trace of him through his father and sister. They will then receive helpful advice from Mike Kovac's friend. This leads to an old forest restaurant in which the smugglers “park their customers” until the actual client has paid the money for their service. They are now also looking for Enis Günday and when Falke and Grosz arrive at the forest inn, they find Laura and the Kovac brothers brutally shot. The terrorist has disappeared.

Falke is now trying desperately to find out what Günday might be up to and where he is. A bugged phone call with the assassin's father indicates an attack in a Braunschweig hospital. Falke then mobilized all available emergency services to the City Clinic East , where Günday and his friend Hakim are currently rounding up the clinic staff and patients with automatic weapons. They want to broadcast the bloodbath live on the Internet with a body cam . When Günday gets scruples and puts down his weapon in order to finally face the chief detective, he is judged by Hakim because, in his opinion, he incurred the eponymous wrath of God and he has turned his back on the fight with the unbelievers. When Hakim shoots the police, he is shot by Grosz.

Chief Inspector Falke offers Julia Grosz to work with him in the future. She agrees and goes with him to the federal police.

background

The film was shot from April 13, 2015 to May 15, 2015 in Hanover and at Hanover-Langenhagen Airport under the working title Ascension Day .

The premiere took place on March 17, 2016 in the Astor Grand Cinema in Hanover.

The episode Wrath of God is the first collaboration between Wotan Wilke Möhring and the Austrian actress Franziska Weisz , who is joining the investigative team for Petra Schmidt-Schaller . Möhring stated that he was not involved in the decision for the occupation. He emphasized that it was not designed exclusively for the result of the wrath of God , "we are definitely planning for longer". He also stated that the direction of the realignment of the North German crime scene was that “the private of the detective should not play a much larger role in the future, but we want to tell a little more about his life and therefore establish a clearer connection with Hamburg”. About his character Thorsten Falke he let it be known, “In addition, he should regain the part of his cynical lightness that he had at the beginning. We want to make Falke funnier, flippier, lighter again. "

Almost three weeks before the episode was first broadcast, a police officer at Cologne / Bonn Airport actually evacuated the airport because she entered a security area without going through the required control.

Soundtrack

When Günday's father asks Hakim, the best friend of his son Enis, about his whereabouts, Hakim's headphones hear the music track Jungle by Freeway . At the nightly meeting in the woods between Mike Kovac and Kuhn, the title Ooh Child by The Five Stairsteps can be heard on Mike's car radio . This title is still running when the vehicle arrives at the abandoned Waldgasthof.

On March 18, 2016, Peppermint Jam / SPV, with the participation of Mousse T. , who was responsible for the music of the episode together with Peter Hinderthür , released a soundtrack containing 19 music tracks with a total playing time of 72:39 minutes.

criticism

Detlef Hartlap from prisma saw a crime scene episode which thematically touches on various areas: "Airport security, the smugglers' business, an Islamist" Braunschweig brigade "which announces death and ruin for Germans". But Hartlaps was “really convincing” according to “none of these topics”, because “the problem areas of the globe are dealt with from Croatia via Iran, Afghanistan, oil wells, Russians etc. in a quick verbal abuse procedure, as if it were the task of the crime scene, perfect for to transfer the following talk show ”. Hartlap concludes that “the film is still quite worth seeing” due to “the interaction of Franziska Weisz” as a “bone-dry policewoman of high professionalism” and Wotan Wilke Möhring as “the cop with decisive flashes of inspiration”.

Petra Noppeney from the Westfälische Nachrichten thinks the crime scene is “drastic, but also funny”. The script and direction succeeded in a “mad start” , and at the same time the “script trick” of making Falke obligated for the investigation on the verge of a real test at the airport gave rise to “smiles”. Falke and his "new silent partner", who was played "class" by Franziska Weisz, offered "amusing moments". "Some backgrounds remained vague", but according to Noppeney it is an "exciting crime thriller" that "strictly comes down to the terrifying finale in the hospital".

“This 'crime scene' shows the great potential that investigator Thorsten Falke, played by Wotan Wilke Möhring, has in store. After Möhrings Falke had been ousted from Hamburg by Schweigers Tschiller, he initially looked very unhappy. But with his move to the national federal police, Falke is now responsible for smuggling crime and refugee misery, the really big issues of our time, and the responsible NDR is making every effort to try out different narrative styles that are also up to date. "

“A lot of people are killed, the big issue of terrorism is dealt with in explanatory dialogues and at regular table level. [...] It always seems presumptuous when an attempt is made to squeeze a complex world conflict into a Sunday evening entertainment format. In Stuttgart it didn't work a few weeks ago either, but the dissolution was not as publicly defused as in this case. "

"Anyone who likes thrillers that are less about action à la Til Schweiger and about a well-told and entangled story that delivers suspense to the end will get their money's worth."
