occupation

Querschläger is a television film from the crime series Tatort . The report produced by NDR was broadcast for the first time on December 1st, 2019 on Erste and SRF 1 . It is the twelfth case of police chief inspector Thorsten Falke , the sixth with police chief inspector Julia Grosz and the first crime scene of director Stephan Rick .

action

During a police check at a truck stop, a sniper shoots a truck and a truck driver is fatally hit by a ricochet. Inspector Grosz pursues the perpetrator alone in a breakneck manner, he escapes her. One of the first leads is a drug that is only available abroad and that the perpetrator lost at the scene of the crime.

The viewer learns early on that the culprit is actually the customs officer Steffen Thewes, who only wanted to hit the truck to extort money from a freight forwarder. He needs the money for a life-saving operation on his seriously ill daughter, as this special treatment is not covered by the health insurance company. The perpetrator then shoots a hunter who sees him in the forest with his sniper rifle. He also shoots a truck driver and the haulier; both survive.

The commissioners finally track down the perpetrator. In the final scene, Commissioner Falke is able to convince the perpetrator to give up a hostage-taking, and he builds a bridge for the freight forwarder to donate a large amount of money earned through criminal channels and to remain unpunished for it. Shortly afterwards, a large amount of money goes into the donation account for the girl, which makes the life-saving operation possible.

background

The film was shot under the working title Collateral Damage from September 11, 2018 to October 11, 2018. The premiere took place at the 30th Emden-Norderney International Film Festival on June 15, 2019.

Reviews

The critic Christian Buß rated the film at Spiegel Online with seven out of ten possible points and gave a praiseworthy verdict: “The emotional center of this 'crime scene' is therefore a murderer. This works because Peschel created his Thewes as a highly ambivalent figure who, as a father, pushes all moral considerations aside in order to save the daughter. "

The film service rated the film with two out of five possible stars and rated it as an average crime thriller that neglects tension and logic and sometimes turns out to be "very kitsch" about the claim to tell a tragic family drama. Only “the well-played desperate perpetrator” would gain in profile in the scenario. The journalist Matthias Hannemann saw it similarly in the FAZ : The film could have been “more than a common 'crime scene'” if all the roles had been cast as “precisely” as Peschel's.

Audience rating

The first broadcast of the film on December 1, 2019 was seen by 9.14 million viewers in Germany and achieved a market share of 26.2% for Das Erste .
