Katrin Gebbe (* 1983 in Ibbenbüren ) is a German film director and screenwriter .

Life

Katrin Gebbe first studied fine arts and visual communication at the Academy of Visual Arts in Enschede , where she made her first short and experimental films. From 2005 onwards he went on to study direction at the Hamburg Media School . Her thesis, the short film Şoreş & Şîrîn with Ulrike Folkerts , was awarded the short film prize of the adult jury at the Chicago International Children's Film Festival . He also received the European Young CIVIS Media Prize in 2009 .

Her feature film debut Tore tanzt über eine Hamburg Jesus Freak was invited to the Un Certain Regard section of the 66th Cannes Film Festival . The film celebrated its world premiere there on May 23, 2013 . Gebbe and Verena Höfe-Gräft , the producer of the film, met during their studies and started working on the project in 2009. The young actor Julius Feldmeier took on the leading role . For this film, Katrin Gebbe received the German Film Critics' Prize in 2013 for the best feature film debut and the Bavarian Film Prize for the best young directors.

Her second film Pelikanblut, starring Nina Hoss , premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in 2019 , where it opened the Orizzonti sub-section .
