The old Bargteheider town hall

Bargteheide ( Low German Bartheil ) is a town in the Stormarn district in Schleswig-Holstein . It belongs to the Hamburg metropolitan region . Bargteheide has no other districts.

geography

Bargteheide lies on a glacial terminal moraine 27 km north of Hamburg . Lübeck is 32 km away in a north-easterly direction.

history

Bargteheide emerged as an anger village in the High Middle Ages. It was first mentioned in 1314 as "Brektehegel". As early as 1322, a parish was mentioned in a document from the Hamburg cathedral chapter for Bargteheide. In addition, in the 14th century the place had a regional central function as a resting and relaxation place and market. In 1475, Duke Johann IV of Saxony-Lauenburg bought the village that previously belonged to the Tremsbüttel estate . In 1571 it passed to the Holstein-Gottorfer rule and was subordinate to the old Tremsbüttel office.

In 1859 Bargteheide became the seat of the Tremsbüttel office, and in 1867 of the parish bailiff district . In the same year it received the status of an independent rural municipality. With the Prussian administrative reform in 1889, Bargteheide became the seat of the district of the same name with 24 municipalities.

As part of the Hamburg uprising of the KPD , the mayor was appointed on October 23, 1923 and a “ Soviet Republic Stormarn ” was proclaimed. In the absence of popular support, the uprising collapsed the next day.

In 1948 Bargteheide became the seat of the newly created Bargteheide office , from which it left in 1957. The office has been called "Bargteheide-Land" since then, but is still based in Bargteheide. On May 15, 1970 Bargteheide was granted town charter .

coat of arms

Blazon : "Above a blue shield base, in it five diagonally crossed, continuous silver threads, two diagonally to the right, three to the diagonally left, in silver a red wagon wheel with eight spokes."

The wagon wheel in the upper part stands for transport and mobility, as Bargteheide - conveniently located in the middle of the route between Hamburg and Lübeck - was often used as a resting place. Traders and travelers could rest there and the draft animals could be unhitched ("utspann" in Low German, hence the name of the restaurant in the thatched roof house built in 1517). The five white lines below represent the city's transport links: the A 1, B 75 and B 434 from southwest to northeast, B 404 and A 21 from southeast to northwest.
