geography

Mönkhagen is located on the former federal highway 206 (now K112), west of Stockelsdorf . Niendorferbek , Kornbek , Heilsau , Reinsbek , Martelsbek and Eckhorster Lauf flow through the municipality.

history

The name of the place, which means "Hagen der Mönche", indicates that Mönkhagen originally emerged as an enclosed clearing settlement.

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1221 in a building permit for the church in Zarpen .

The community was created in the course of the territorial reform of 1948 from the amalgamation of the communities Mönkhagen and Langniendorf. In addition to these two districts, Steinkoppel and Krübbenberg as well as Neuhof and Lütjenfelde also belong to the municipality.

Municipal council and mayor

Of the nine seats in the municipal council, the CDU has four seats since the local elections on May 6, 2018, and the constituency AWG Mönkhagen-Langniendorf five seats. Mayor is Klaus Bleiziffer (AWG).

Buildings

In the list of cultural monuments in Mönkhagen are the cultural monuments entered in the monuments list of the state of Schleswig-Holstein.

The manor house of the Mönkhagen estate was built around 1870 under the then owner Ernst August Becker and it is an example of early historicism in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. The listed building was still ready for demolition at the end of the 1980s. It is privately owned. Its extensive renovation was completed in 1995. There are two small ponds on the approximately 10,000 m² park-like property.

Sports

In Mönkhagen there is the Mönkhagen-Langniendorf game community, which plays friendly matches against teams from nearby locations at irregular intervals and organizes an annual soccer tournament.

Economy and Infrastructure

The primary school, which is responsible for Mönkhagen, is located in the neighboring municipality of Zarpen . There are also several day-care centers in Zarpen.

The community has had a connection to the federal motorway 20 from Lübeck to Bad Segeberg since 2009 .
