About this picture

Hamberge ( Hambarg in Low German ) is a municipality in the northeast of the Stormarn district in Schleswig-Holstein . Hansfelde and Poggenpohl are in the municipality.

geography

Hamberge is located on the banks of the Trave on the border with the Hanseatic city of Lübeck . The federal highway 75 leads through the village from Lübeck to Reinfeld (Holstein) .

history

Trave near Hamberge

Hamberge was originally a Slavic village called "Lancowe". Since 1163 it was owned by the Lübeck cathedral chapter . It was divided into the two places Hamberge and Hansfelde in 1197 .

After secularization through the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss , Hamberge fell to the Principality of Lübeck in 1803 . Through an area swap it came to Holstein in 1842 and was incorporated into the old rulership of Reinfeld . After the annexation of Schleswig-Holstein by Prussia , the place was assigned to the newly formed Stormarn district in 1867 . With the introduction of the Prussian municipal constitution , he came to the Neuhof district in 1889 .

Hansfelde was created in 1197 by the Hamberge department as the courtyard of the Lübeck cathedral chapter . In 1784 the farm was divided into eight estates. Like Hamberge, Hansfelde fell to the Principality of Lübeck as a result of secularization and in 1842 came to Holstein and there to the Reinfeld office. In the Weimar Republic , Hansfelde was a stronghold of the NSDAP , which won over 80% of the vote in the 1932 Reichstag election. At the time of incorporation into Hamberge, Hansfelde had 366 inhabitants.

In 1911 a bridge was built over the Trave to replace the centuries-old ferry connection. On March 21, 1934, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Reichsautobahn from Hamburg to Lübeck (today Federal Motorway 1 ) was set near Hamberge . In 1948 the place came to the Reinfeld-Land office and in 1972 to the Nordstormarn office .

With the incorporation of Hansfelde, which came into force on January 1, 1974, the two villages were reunited after almost 800 years.

Culture and sights

Hamberge village church from the east

The Hamberge village church was built in 1327/28. The floor plan is rectangular and wide, without the nave and choir structure that is otherwise common in the area. The tower of the church was modernized in 1958. Notable items of equipment are the font made of Gotland limestone and the altar and pulpit from the workshop of the Lübeck master Hieronymus Hassenberg from 1722. The church was repainted in 1927 by the Lübeck artist Asmus Jessen based on motifs found during the restoration.

The founder of the Schleswig-Holstein school for deaf and dumb children in Schleswig, Georg Wilhelm Pfingsten , was previously the organist at this church from 1792–1799 .

The list of cultural monuments in Hamberge includes the cultural monuments entered in the list of monuments of Schleswig-Holstein.
